Your clipboard exposed - Does MS not care? E-mail

IE seems to have a "feature" that exposes the contents of your clipboard to the webservers you visit. Its not a bug, since IE actually has a switch where you can disable it - why it is enabled by default is just beyond me!

To disable this feature, you will need to go to:

Tools -> Internet Options -> Security tab -> Custom Level (for Internet zone) -> Scripting -> Allow paste operations via script -> set to disabled

The better alternative is to:

  • Never copy/paste sensitive information, and if you do, clear the clipboard by copying some dud text.
  • Even beter, use a browser that cares about security - Firefox. Look at the left hand side of this page for a link.

There is absolutely no reason for this "feature" to be enabled, let alone be enabled by default.  It is not uncommon to find people copy/pasting passwords, especially the better, more obscure passwords that most people find impossible to retype, let alone memorise. Does Microsoft not take security serious? or is that actually a redundant question when you look at the numerous serious security holes and exploits going round?
